AIT PRESENTS RESEARCH PROJECT “PLATFORM- ZERO” AT EU PVSEC 2024

The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology presented a new research project, “Platform- ZERO”, at the 41st European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (EU PVSEC) from September 23 to 25, 2024 at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV). Together with partner company Sunplugged, the team from the High-Performance Vision Systems (HVS) competence unit presented a highly innovative roll-to-roll demonstrator equipped with a visual inspection system developed by AIT.

Breakthrough in automated solar cell quality control

The visual inspection system enables fully automated monitoring and quality control of flexible solar cells during production. This approach is a crucial step towards the industrialization and scalability of flexible photovoltaic solutions. The technology significantly improves the manufacturing process by enabling precise, and real-time monitoring.

The efficiency and precision of the system, was particularly highlighted during the demonstration at EU PVSEC. Visitors were impressed by the seamless integration of the technology into the production demonstrator. The AIT team, consisting of Laurin Ginner, Nicole Brosch and Alexander Eckert, together with Andreas Zimmermann, Martina Harnisch and Jascha Riedl from Sunplugged, explained the potential of “Platform - ZERO ” technology and its significance for the future of photovoltaic production.

AIT as an innovation leader in renewable energies

With the “Platform - ZERO” project, AIT is underlining its leading role in applied research for renewable energies and sustainable technologies. In close collaboration with industrial partners such as Sunplugged, AIT is contributing to the further development of innovative production processes that support the transition to a climate-neutral energy supply.
