Top ranking for Fake-Shop Detector in the KSÖ Security Award 2024

04.10.2024

On September 9, 2024, the KSÖ Security Award ceremony took place in the ballroom of the Public Service Union (GÖD) in Vienna. This prize, awarded by the Competence Center for a Safe Austria (KSÖ), honors all those dedicated people who make an indispensable contribution to security in Austria every day in blue-light and volunteer organizations. The awards recognized special achievements, extraordinary events, and the people and teams behind them.
In the category “Successful measures or education in the field of cybercrime and cybersecurity”, the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology received an excellent 2nd place for the Fake-Shop Detector. This security tool is the first of its kind in Austria to provide all Austrian online users with a leading solution in international comparison: an easy-to-use but effective protection against online fraud in the e-commerce sector. The tool is based on a trustworthy AI that provides automated protection against fraud in online shopping. It measures the similarity of web shops to known fake shops and then warns users in real time using a traffic light system.
The Fake-Shop Detector is a multi-award-winning tool that was recently also named the test winner among 35 international cyber security products in an independent test comparison by system test experts AV-Comparatives. The team behind the tool consists of AIT, the Austrian Institute for Applied Telecommunications (ÖIAT) and the IT specialist X-Net.
This further award for a solution “made in Austria” once again underlines the importance of funding for Austrian security research - the Fake-Shop Detector was financed by funds from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism in the KIRAS security research program.
