CRANEium project wins the eAward

02.10.2024
The AIT Center for Technology Experience and Industrie-Logistik-Linz GmbH have won the eAward 2024 in the ‘Collaboration and Organisation’ category with the CRANEium project (intelligent, digital & barrier-free remote crane control with a fun factor).

In just under two years, CRANEium developed a remote crane control system that is groundbreaking for the entire industry. This is the third year in a row that the AIT Centre for Technology Experience has won the prestigious eAward business prize. ‘With CRANEium, we have taken a pioneering step towards improving safety and comfort in the workplace through technological innovation in usability. Together with our partner Industrie-Logistik-Linz, we will continue on this path to enable successful harmonisation between man and machine in the industrial workplace of the future,’ says Alexander Mirnig, AIT project manager at CRANEium.

Industry 5.0 know-how

The AIT Center for Technology Experience has extensive expertise in the field of user interfaces and user experience, especially in industry. In close cooperation with Industrie-Logistik-Linz, CRANEium developed and evaluated a first functional prototype of a remote crane control system. The interaction concept developed, the interface system and the hardware configuration should help to improve operability, minimise the risk of operating errors and thus increase overall work safety. The remote hall crane control system is operated using a standard X-Box controller. Users of the newly developed prototype also benefit from a comprehensive hall view on a large screen. Two smaller screens on the left and right show additional information, such as the schematic hall plan, an overview of the work order and camera views of the hall from above and from the side. The project was subsidised by the Future Fund of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Labour. Now that the project has been successfully completed, the next step is to implement CRANEium in practice step by step. Also as a training and education solution.

Thanks to the eAward team and also thanks to the jury for the award. We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the other nominated and honoured projects!
