UN INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN & GIRLS IN SCIENCE

12.02.2024

The UN International Day of Women & Girls in Science on 11 February and International Women's Day on 8 March are a welcome occasion for us to address the importance of gender equality in science and research. This year, we are focusing on the key factors of empowerment. How significant, self-determined and influential do our AIT employees feel? Are there differences between the sexes, and what does this mean for our teamwork and leadership?

The event series started with a round table on the topic of “Focus – Gender Equality – Empowerment”. In the run up to the International Day of Women & Girls in Science, young AIT researchers used this opportunity to talk about how they have dealt with the subject of equal opportunities at school, university and work, the role played by gender-specific expectations, and what a gender-equitable world would look like. We also wanted to know from our young colleagues what they thought was needed to achieve empowerment.

“True to our motto of 'Diversity inspires ideas', the fresh perspectives offered by young AIT employees offer valuable food for thought on how the social shift towards greater equality can also be driven forward in the scientific community,” said Managing Director Brigitte Bach.
