Workshop „Austria and the digital Multinationals“

12.06.2024

Digital multinationals - also known as big tech - such as Alphabet, Meta, Amazon and others have become a major force in the economy in recent years. Some of the most research-intensive companies now come from this group.

The AIT Center for Innovation Systems & Policy is organising a workshop on ‘Austria and the digital multinationals’ on the morning of 20 June at Skydome, Schottenfeldgasse 29. The workshop builds on a report we prepared for the EU Commission as part of our Foresight on Demand activities, which outlines four scenarios for how the world of big tech could change in the future. During the workshop, we want to explore the question of what opportunities and challenges this outlook on big tech could bring for Austria, particularly with regard to

  1. the attractiveness of Austria as a centre of research and innovation and

  2. the positive and sometimes delicate effects that its dominance has on citizens.

With this workshop, the Austrian Institute of Technology is launching a series of future-oriented dialogues on transformation topics with an impact on Austria's economy, society and politics. They are based on the broad spectrum of international and European work on foresight and transformative innovation policy carried out at the Centre for Innovation Systems and Policy. With four Foresight Briefs and associated workshops, 2024 marks the start of a programme of similar foresight events in Austria over the next three years.  (Workshop language German)
