Electrical Systems and Equipment in High-Current and High-Voltage Applications
Based on testing and certification services, AIT provides support throughout all phases of developing electrical devices such as cables, fuses, switching devices, and power electronic systems. With professional engineering and consulting expertise, AIT is a reliable partner in the product development process for devices used in electrical energy systems.
Testing and Certification Services for Electrical Components and Systems
To ensure the safety and reliability of your electrical installations, we offer a wide range of testing and measurement services:
- Testing switching capabilities under operational and short-circuit conditions
- Short-term current and impulse current testing
- Arc fault testing
- Thermal testing to assess thermal stress
- Evaluation of operational performance of electrical components and systems
- Dielectric tests to verify insulation strength
- Partial discharge measurements for early detection of insulation issues
- Analysis of tripping thresholds and characteristics for circuit breakers and relays
- Verification of mechanical and electrical durability of components
- Ingress protection (IP) testing to verify enclosure sealing
- Environmental simulation tests, including exposure to rain, salt spray, corrosive atmospheres, dust, low temperatures, ice, vibration, shock, and acoustic measurements.
Arc Fault Testing
Arc faults in high-power, low-voltage, and medium-voltage networks can generate temperatures up to 10,000 K and overpressures of several bars. They pose significant risks to people, electrical energy systems, and buildings. Evaluating arc faults is essential for implementing a reliable electrical energy supply and is required by many standards and regulations.
Our Services
- Analytical assessments of arc fault resistance for buildings and electrical systems (including during the planning phase)
- Pressure relief measures (system configuration, pressure, release channels, and flaps)
- Calculation of shock waves and mass pressure loading in enclosed spaces
- Risk assessments of existing installations and evaluation of arc fault events
- Experimental arc fault testing according to EN 62271-200 and 202 as well as IEC/TR 61641 (up to 120 MVA)
Electromagnetic Fields (EMF)
Thresholds for electromagnetic exposure caused by electrical installations are defined in the EU Directives 1999/519/EC, 2013/35/EU for workers, and BGBl. II No. 179/2016.
Our Services
- Calculation of EMF in electrical energy systems using Finite Element Methods (FEM)
- Measurement of EMF in accordance with IEC 62271-202 and IEC 62271-208
Thermal Testing & Heat Rise Testing for Electrical Components
Global warming, more powerful power grids, and the demand for increasingly compact energy systems inevitably lead to greater thermal stress on components.
Our Services
- Calculation of temperature rise in components and systems using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), including during the design phase.
- Experimental determination of enclosure classification according to EN 62271-202 and heat rise testing of components and systems for electrical energy applications.
