Center for Vision, Automation & Control

We are a team of approximately 140 experts who carry out research for and together with our customers in the fields of image processing, sensor fusion, machine learning, data analytics, mathematical modelling for real-time applications, process automation, system analysis, control and optimization of complex dynamical systems and processes.

In order to achieve the best results for our customers, our research is conducted in close collaboration with major national and international companies, scientific partners and institutions in the public sector. Our work focusses in particular on key technologies such as autonomous machines and assistance systems, high-performance quality inspection systems, mechatronics and robotics as well as digitization and automation of production systems.

A significant advantage for our customers is our close synergetic linkage of far-reaching scientific methods and technological expertise. Our portfolio encompasses the entire spectrum from consultation to medium and long-term strategic research collaboration, the development of prototypes and on through to support with industrial implementation and application. In close cooperation with our industrial partners we also help with the efficient implementation of new software and dedicated hardware. Thanks to our many years of experience we have outstanding expertise at our finger tips in many different areas. Special attention in all our projects is given to both the understanding as well as a holistic perspective of systems.

We are at your disposal at all times should you have any questions, be looking for solutions to problems or be interested in collaborating with AIT.

VAC Laboratories and Test Areas

The Center for Vision, Automation & Control (VAC) has a suitable laboratory infrastructure at its locations in Vienna and Seibersdorf to advance, test and demonstrate the automation of commercial vehicles and work machines, inspection systems for quality control and for various areas of aviation.

Large-Scale Robotics Lab: AIT's own outdoor test facility in Seibersdorf is dedicated to the automation of large-scale robotics and work machines.

Machine Vision Lab: Located at Giefinggasse 4 in Vienna, this lab focuses on innovative image processing technologies for automated quality control.

Aerial Systems Lab: Also located at Giefinggasse 4 in Vienna, the Aerial Systems Lab is dedicated to automated aerial applications.

The cooperation with DigiTrans (the test area for automated driving) and AIRlabs (the test region for unmanned aerial vehicles) strengthens the center's position in the development of automated and autonomous systems. The partnership makes it possible to test and further develop assistance functions, commercial vehicles, work machines and automated aircraft under real conditions and to carry out appropriate tests in simulated and real conditions.
