As a subsidiary of AIT LKR Leichtmetallkompetenzzentrum Ranshofen GmbH forms the Competence Unit "Light Metals Technologies Ranshofen" in the AIT Center for Transport Technologies. The business focus is centered around high-quality light metal alloys and sustainable manufacturing processes, as well as functionally integrated lightweight components.
When developing lightweight components, one of the main challenges lies in the ability to reduce weight while also ensuring passenger safety during a crash. The use of lightweight materials is a permanent increasing need in the automotive industry, which is reflected in the increased use of this technology in vehicle design. The application of light metals provides a huge weight reduction potential, which in turn has a positive effect on the energy efficiency and CO2 emissions of vehicles.
Striving to rise to these challenges, the LKR team of more than 50 specialists has both cutting-edge simulation tools as well as a unique research infrastructure at its disposal. This allows new metal alloys and customized processes for casting of lightweight components and metal forming to be developed and prototyped.
